Customer Reviews

My daughter and I enjoyed doing this project together. A sewing machine is highly recommended for part of the kit.

How hard is it to make a sock monkey? Well, after about 4-5 hours of sewing, mine still needs to have his arms, legs, and tail attached. The directions aren't great. For example it shows you how to make the tail but it isn't mentioned where or how to attach it to the body. The kit is basically 2 socks, some thread (not nearly enough), a needle, fabric, 2 buttons for the eyes, and some basic directions with a few templates for cutting out a couple of the parts. There are some tutorials on youtube, I highly suggest that you search for "sock monkey tutorial" on youtube by the user expertvillage. Here is the link to all of the tutorials:

You better know how to do a whip stitch, a french knot, and a basket weave before attempting this one. My big mistake was doing this all by hand, a sewing machine would have saved me hours. I hope my kid loves this for a long, long time - because it is one of the most difficult projects that I have ever done. This project is way more complicated than it looks. I'll add pictures when it is done. Would I do this again... nope. Although, I do feel like I really accomplished something now that it is almost finished.
