Customer Reviews
I bought this for my six year old daughter, who's all about princesses, fairies, and so on. She was so very excited to be able to make her own princess doll. Too bad the included supplies were not high enough quality to truly make this doll. I ended up having to drag out my hot glue gun to glue everything on so that it wouldn't fall apart.
The doll body is pre-made and you are given yarn to create the hair, ribbons and shiny fabric to make the gown, and fishing line with a few beads to make the necklace and "gather" the skirt to make it flouncy. The provided glue is just awful - you'd be lucky to get paper to stick together with that glue. They also provided pieces of double sided sticky tape type stuff that was supposed to hold metallic ribbon decoration to the fabric. The metallic ribbon does not stick to the sticky tape or the glue, plus the sticky tape can be seen around and behind the decorative ribbon, which looks pretty tacky. (I can just imagine the hairs, dirt, food, etc. sticking to it once the doll was played with.) I ended up ripping off the sticky tape stuff and just hot gluing all the stuff down. I also glued the gathers to make the skirt flouncy, as trying to do it with the fishing wire was just too tedious. There is Velcro on the back of the dolls head, but it doesn't cover enough of the head to hold on the hair (unless she has an extreme receding hairline...) so I hot glued that too.
When all was said and done the doll was quite cute. However, I was very disappointed by the fact that the included supplies did not work well and the doll could not truly be assembled solely using the included supplies. (If you want it to not fall apart, at least!)
The age for this craft was (I believe) 8 and up. However, I knew I'd be helping my 6 year old. However, even someone over 8 will be frustrated with this kit because of the shoddy supplies. If you have a glue gun and don't mind helping to build the doll then go for it! But don't buy this kit and expect a child to be able to fully recreate the image of the doll on the box without additional supplies and possibly help.
Summary: Cute doll, shoddy supplies. Expect to use extra supplies, esp. hot glue gun, to build/create the doll.
my daughter got this doll as a gift and loved it. it was a fun project for us to do together. the adhesive wasn't the strongest, so i had to use craft glue for the skirt part, but that worked fine. she gently plays with the doll and so far, it's held up. i would purchase this product or something like it again.
